According to INSEE, brownfield sites are “built-up or undeveloped areas formerly used for industrial, commercial, or other activities, abandoned for more than two years, and covering more than 2,000 m².” However, there are also agricultural brownfield sites (which are different from fallow land) and urban brownfield sites.
In order to facilitate their rehabilitation, numerous inventories of brownfield sites have been created. Those of Cerema. Or those of Lifti.
The rehabilitation of brownfield sites allows the site to be given a social, environmental, or agricultural use. It is an opportunity for land development on available land. The rehabilitation of brownfield sites has many environmental and economic advantages.
In some cases, the rehabilitation of brownfield sites makes it possible to : :
- combat soil artificialisation
- recreate green corridors, take action for biodiversity
- contribute to the economic revitalization of a region
ECT puts its expertise at the service of local authorities to transform these brownfield sites into useful and sustainable spaces. By reusing excavated soil from local construction sites, we repurpose these spaces into :
- Parks and green spaces promoting biodiversity.
- Agricultural sites returned to cultivation.
- Recreational areas open to the public.
Each project is designed in consultation with local stakeholders in order to meet the needs of the region, while ensuring that development is in line with the principles of the circular economy.
