First hydrogen truck for transporting excavated soil

At Solutrans, Hyliko, in partnership with ECT, is handing over to the Mauffrey group the keys to the first “worksite approach” hydrogen truck for low-carbon worksites, with a view to its commercial launch in early 2026 on one of France’s largest transport infrastructure projects.

Press release – November 19, 2025

As Hyliko unveils its new generation of retrofitted Hyliko Hy T442nd Edition hydrogen tractor units at Solutrans 2025, the French player in hydrogen mobility announces its entry into the earthmoving and public works segment with the delivery of the very first “worksite approach” model to Groupe Mauffrey, the French leader in transport for the construction market, as part of a partnership with ECT, the French leader in soil reclamation. Hyliko’s innovation, the first of its kind for a zero-emission heavy-duty vehicle, is part of its contribution to decarbonizing the transport of soil and building materials to and from low-carbon construction sites.

The delivery of the Hy T442nd Edition tractor will enable Mauffrey, a French specialist in the transport of building materials to construction sites, to support its CSR strategy with the aim of reducing its carbon emissions by 50% by 2030. “Since 2012, when France’s1st gas tractor was put on the road, the Mauffrey Group has always been a forerunner in the acquisition of innovative, virtuous equipment and in supporting its customers in their energy transition. This Hy T442nd Edition tractor, designed and assembled in France, will help deliver our customer ECT’s worksites, while contributing to the decarbonization of their activities. ” explains Fabrice Grandgirard, Chairman of the Mauffrey Group.

Hyliko ‘s Hy T442nd Edition tractor, dedicated to the “worksite approach”, features a reinforced chassis, raised suspensions and a scalloped bumper. The front end and steel grille enhance the vehicle’s impact protection. The truck benefits from a light grille, larger tires and a hydraulic power pack capable of supporting a tipping trailer.

This handover marks a major step in the decarbonization of transport flows linked to low-carbon construction sites. The project is part of a wider strategy to transform the earthmoving and public works segment, with the aim of significantly reducing the carbon footprint of logistics operations. The fruit of a three-way partnership between Hyliko, ECT and Mauffrey, in close collaboration with the principals of major construction sites, this initiative represents a first in France (and one of the first in Europe) in the field of hydrogen transport in the construction sector.

The vehicle will be deployed from January 2026 by Mauffrey for its customer Razel Bec, a subsidiary of Fayat, as part of the construction site for the future line 17 of the Grand Paris Express. The truck will transport excavated soil between the construction site and ECT’s soil reuse site at Villeneuve sous Dammartin (77), representing 10 daily rounds and 270 tonnes of soil deposited each day. Over a year of operation and 25,000 km covered, Hyliko’s second-generation hydrogen truck will save 1.05 kg ofCO2 per KM, or 26 tonnes ofCO2 in total.

The delivery of this brand-new Hyliko hydrogen truck underlines our commitment to offering our customers modern, sustainable technical solutions to decarbonize their freight transport. The use of the Hyliko Hy T44 2nd Edition tractor will help to improve air quality, reduce noise pollution and improve public acceptance of construction sites in city centers.

The transportation of construction soil by earthworkers is the main source of GHG emissions in the soil recycling value chain. We are committed to reusing soil locally, with an average distance of 25 km between our sites and our customers' worksites. The other lever for decarbonization is our truck fleet. The launch of our first "worksite approach" hydrogen truck is a direct response to our need for an operational solution tailored to the requirements of our customers' worksites.

With the 2nd generation of tractors launched at Solutrans, vehicles already or soon to be in operation at Brétéché transport, for ESA in French Guiana and now for the Mauffrey Group, we are keeping a clear course: to continue making hydrogen a reality to help the transport sector reconcile performance, sustainability and environmental protection.

Webinar on hydrogen as a solution for decarbonizing construction site transport

On November 13, 2025, Hyliko and ECT co-hosted a webinar on hydrogen as a solution for decarbonizing transport and construction site operations. Hosted by Alexandre Fornes (Hyliko) and Guillaume Paradis (ECT), this exchange presented concrete solutions for reconciling operational performance and the energy transition.
Faced with the climate emergency and regulatory requirements, the building and civil engineering sector needs to rethink its practices: hydrogen is emerging as a key lever for reducing emissions while guaranteeing worksite efficiency. Discover the replay of this innovative webinar.
