In 2024, ECT planted 6.5 ha of afforestation

Boisements - JournĂ©e internationale des forĂȘts

To mark the International Day of Forests, ECT is highlighting its reforestation actions. During the 2023/2024 winter season, our teams planted 10,300 trees, representing 6.5 hectares of forests and groves. The major challenge is to create ecosystems that are resilient and adapted to climate change. These afforestation schemes are included right from the design stage of ECT projects, which transform excavated soil from the construction industry into green, agricultural or recreational landscaping that benefits the local area.

Woodlands adapted to local climatic conditions

Our projects are designed to meet the challenges of climate change and promote local biodiversity. 5 principles guide our natural landscaping :

  • Resilience. We select species adapted to climatic changes. We are integrating more local thermophilic species. They are capable of withstanding new weather conditions.
  • Diversity of species. As each site has unique characteristics (soil, hydrology), we favor a mix of varied species. This promotes the stability and richness of the ecosystem.
  • Optimizing ecological structures. Our forests are more than just trees. We create shrub borders, freely evolving clearings and diverse plant strata. This richness provides a natural habitat for many species, especially birds.
  • Local planting. By favoring local species, notably through the VĂ©gĂ©tal Local label, we guarantee a regional genetic origin, supporting local producers and ensuring the sustainability of ecosystems.
  • Educational commitment. Each project involves local players and schools. Over 500 schoolchildren take part in planting the sites every year.

140 ha of woodlands and areas restored or under development

Over the past 7 years, ECT’s Green Spaces department has planted or supervised the planting of 140 hectares of woodland on all our projects.
