Transitional landscaping in Sallaumines (62)

Site de Sallaumines - apports de terres

In the Pas-de-Calais town of Sallaumines, a temporary development project has been launched in the heart of the 13/18 housing estate, in anticipation of the neighborhood’s future redevelopment.

A project carried out in partnership with Maisons&Cité and the City of Paris

Supported by Maisons & Cités and the town of Sallaumines, and assisted by the ECT Hauts-de-France agency, this transitional management approach aims to enhance the value of sites that have been deconstructed and are no longer in use. The objective? Provide a more pleasant living environment for local residents, while preparing for future urban uses. This “temporary free garden” will enable residents to reappropriate the space right from the start, with planted landscaping that is accessible and open to new uses.

A project financed by the circular land economy

Starting in July, the site will receive three months’ worth of inert soil, exclusively from local construction sites. This rigorously controlled soil is reused for :

  • securing deconstructed rights-of-way,
  • reshape the terrain and create landscape forms,
  • encourage revegetation,
  • and finance the entire project.

This virtuous circular-economy model enables a gentle transformation of the neighborhood, without further artificialization, while awaiting the reconstruction phases.
