Project presentation

As part of the redevelopment of the 13/18 housing estate in Sallaumines, supported by Maisons & Cités and the town of Sallaumines, ECT is assisting the partners in the transitional management of deconstructed rights-of-way. These plots are currently unused and colonized by low-quality spontaneous vegetation (nettles, thistles, sagebrush). This temporary arrangement secures and enhances the value of the land before it is rebuilt, improving the living environment for local residents while promoting biodiversity.

Launch of temporary layout

July 2025 – the new development project is launched, in the cité 13/18 district. This new “free garden” project is part of a transitional management approach, prior to the reconstruction of the future district. For three months, the site will receive inert soil from local building sites. This will help shape the land, make it safer and encourage the return of vegetation, while financing the project.

An improved living environment thanks to the creation of an open garden

These deconstructed plots are currently unused. To make them safer and improve the living environment for local residents, a greening program is being implemented. It includes :

  • A slight bump in the ground, from 50 cm to 1 metre high, inside the blocks.
  • Spaces for relaxation and occasional entertainment.
  • Revegetation by sowing meadows.
  • Preservation of existing roadways serving renaturalized areas.
  • The creation of perimeter bunds to secure plots of land
