Project presentation

The extension of the “Les Carreaux” site in Annet-sur-Marne opens up new agricultural, environmental and leisure opportunities. The project revitalizes the site and transforms it for the benefit of the region and its inhabitants. Walks, sports activities and reconnecting with nature are organized around sports facilities and shared gardens, in conjunction with local associations.

A project with environmental, agricultural and sporting prospects

The restoration of the site used to receive inert construction materials from public works projects (through September 2026), operated by ECT, is developing a threefold environmental, agricultural, and recreational purpose. It is part of an approach aimed at enhancing and revitalizing the local area, and it offers a sustainable transformation of the site for the benefit of the municipality and its residents, at no cost to the community. This initiative is based on an ambition that brings together agricultural, environmental, and recreational objectives.

1 . Strengthening agricultural vocation and preserving biodiversity

The project provides for the restoration of agricultural plateaus to active cultivation. The planting of hedgerows will help structure and enhance the landscape. The integration of agroforestry practices—combining trees, crops, and livestock—will make it possible to balance agricultural production, soil protection, and agricultural resilience in the face of climate change.

The creation of orchards and wooded areas will promote the restoration of functional natural habitats suited to local biodiversity.

2 . Facilities for public and sports use

Part of the site will also be developed and made accessible to the public, with open spaces and an area dedicated to mountain biking. Walking paths will form a loop connecting the site to the municipality, providing easy access on foot or by bicycle to this new shared place for nature, sports, and relaxation.

3 . Landscape enhancement

Among the site’s points of interest, visitors will be able to climb the ‘Annet Pyramid,’ designed by architect and urban planner Antoine Grumbach. At the top of this scenic overlook, geographic and landscape information will help visitors better understand the broader landscape, the spatial organization of the area, and the project’s environmental features

Rainwater management to mitigate flooding.

Long exposed to flooding, the Clos Saint-Martin neighborhood has benefited for several years from lasting flood protection implemented by ECT. To safeguard residents from heavy rainfall, ECT has incorporated a set of hydraulic structures into its project, capable of handling hundred-year floods

At the heart of the system, three retention basins have been created, one of which can hold up to 10,000 m³ of water. These basins have also been designed as future natural spaces: their gradual landscaping allows for the development of wetlands that support biodiversity.

In addition, a network of peripheral ditches ensures precise management of stormwater.

This overall system thus combines flood protection with environmental enhancement, providing the area with a resilient solution

Integration of the Annet-sur-Marne site into the Oasis Nature network

November 2022 – The Humanité et Biodiversité association has approved the inclusion of the renatured areas (embankments, fruit trees and tree-lined paths) on the site in its Oasis de Nature network.

Education for Sustainable Development at Ecole Vasarely

December 2021, ECT teams met with Vasarely primary school pupils. These instructive exchanges are part of the Education for Sustainable Development program, and provide an opportunity to present the project currently under development and the circular economy of excavated soil.

Anne-Marie Filaire photographs the site

The ECT site in Annet-sur-Marne is one of the 6 sites photographed by Anne-Marie Filaire.

This groundbreaking documentary work can be found in his book “Terres, Sols profonds du Grand Paris”, published on September 17, 2020 by Dominique Carré – La Découverte.

An "Earthworks" workshop at ENSP

A successful challenge for students at the Ecole de Paysage de Versailles, under the direction of Simon Boudvin. The aim of this artistic workshop, held in situ, was to design and create a work of art in 4 days using 1,000 m3 of inert soil and a bulldozer provided by ECT.
