Terres d’origine contrôlée: where does the excavated soil come from?

Every year in the Paris region, some 20 to 25 million tonnes of soil are excavated from construction sites. Inert excavated soil is a noble, surplus material, reused by ECT to create development projects that benefit the local area. Where does the land come from? How does ECT guarantee their origin?

An overview of three emblematic Parisian worksites and the role of ECT’s environmental technicians.

3 emblematic Paris worksites: construction begins with excavation

The Triangle Tower – Paris 15 | The 15th arrondissement of Paris continues its major construction projects with the impressive Tour Triangle. In 2023, ECT will be supporting its customer SMTP, Société Moderne des Terrassements Parisiens, in the management and recovery of excavated soil from this large-scale project.

Le Jardin d’acclimatation – Paris 16 | On the edge of the Bois de Boulogne, in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, the Jardin d’Acclimatation is being modernized. In the 2nd quarter of 2023, ECT will support its customer Pelayo, an earthmoving and demolition company, in the management and reclamation of excavated soil from this flagship site, just a few meters from the Fondation Louis-Vuitton.

AP-HP Assistance publique – Paris 10 | The Nouveau Lariboisière AP-HP construction site, built by CBC, is located in the 10th arrondissement of Paris. An impressive overall restructuring project, starting with the excavation and earthwork of the basement by our client SMTP. Photos taken in March 2023, during a shoot for the ECT.- account.

ECT's environmental technicians work on the excavation sites of our construction and public works customers.

ECT’s environmental technicians supervise the evacuation of soil excavated by our customers on construction sites. What does their job involve? They guarantee that the soil and materials are properly transported to the appropriate recovery sites, as evidenced by dematerialized transport vouchers. ECT’s environmental engineering offer is designed to ensure the traceability and recovery of soil in motion.
